Juteopolis

For my first 2nd year project I have been asked to design an exhibition space at the DCA on the theme of Juteopolis. My group - Esther, Kirstie and myself decided to focus on the bonding of the women who worked in the Jute mills and factories in Dundee and also how the population of Dundee went from being very fragile to exploding due to the increase in jobs.

Over 50,000 people were employed in over 100 mills around dundee between 1841 and 1901. Most of the employee's were women or young children, which ment paying lower wages for the jute barons. The employees were under constant risk due to the dangerous machinery, dust and the noise of the machinery.
